Zero Performance Impact
You’re probably a little skeptical about how this all works. Strange proxies? DNS funky business? In fact, the Wrenchmode middleware just checks in with the main Wrenchmode server periodically in order to determine when to display the maintenance page to your users. All the status checking and updating takes place in a separate thread and nothing interferes with the normal flow of users to your website. Still suspicious? The middleware is open source so check it out yourself and you’ll see that it’s tiny, fast, and adds zero overhead to your application.
Let In Some, Keep Out the Rest
Want to double-check your updates before you open the gates wide to the world? You can whitelist your own IP address and bypass the Wrenchmode maintenance page, while everyone else is safely kept away. Take a few minutes to poke around and make sure everything is working, rather than risking a landslide of user-facing 500 errors because you forgot one little thing.
Realtime Updates
Maintenance taking longer than you expected? Users getting antsy? Keep them in the loop with realtime updates. Post an update and it will appear for all users instantly, no refresh required. Users can be patient, but they like to know what’s going on. A dynamic stream of updates is a lot more reassuring than an ugly, static “Sorry we’re down…” page.
