Shielded from the rest of the internet

Borealis Isolated Postgres is different from other database add-ons: instead of exposing database servers to connections from the whole world, each cluster is isolated in its own virtual private cloud and all connections are required to travel through a secure tunnel. Simply add the add-on’s companion buildpack to automatically establish a secure tunnel for your app without any application code changes.

Dual-purpose replicas

There’s no need to choose between high availability and query load balancing. Every replica node is available to serve read-only queries and can take over as the read/write primary node in the event of a hardware failure.

Fast, reliable, durable

Get world-class database throughput and latency and a target availability of 99.99%. For maximum protection against data loss, data is fully replicated to six physical copies in three availability zones. And, in the unlikely event of a hardware failure in the primary node of a multi-node database cluster, it will automatically fail over to a replica node for minimal downtime.

Effortless scaling

Support for in-place plan upgrades makes it easy to scale horizontally by adding more replica nodes to an existing database cluster or to scale vertically by switching to servers with more CPUs, RAM and storage without waiting for long data copy operations.
