Highly secure and fully managed PostgreSQL database clusters on Amazon Aurora. Starting at $0/mo.
Security best practices are clear that your backend’s services should be unreachable from the open internet to prevent malicious actors from exploiting access to them. Borealis Isolated Postgres is different from other database add-ons: instead of exposing the database directly to the open internet, each database is isolated in its own virtual private cloud and all connections are required to travel over a secure tunnel with strong authentication and encryption. This is accomplished without sacrificing ease of use since the add-on’s companion buildpack allows seamless connections to a database over a secure tunnel without any application code changes.
By utilizing Amazon Aurora, database throughput is up to three times faster than vanilla PostgreSQL on the same hardware while offering a target availability of 99.99%. To ensure maximum protection against data loss, database storage is fully replicated across six physical copies with single-digit-millisecond replication times between them. In multi-node database clusters, a hardware failure in the lead/writer instance automatically results in a transparent failover to one of the read replica instances, typically finishing in under a minute.
